Propane

This morning while I was fixing breakfast, we discovered that we were quite unexpectedly out of propane. It's been very warm, so we haven't been using propane for heating, so to have used two tanks in less than three weeks was surprising. We went on to our assignment to work in the kitchen (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.). Ken sliced strawberries for strawberry shortcake, and I got to peel potatoes for potato salad. We had lots of people for the noon meal, since Bobbie was fixing barbecued ribs.

After lunch, we called the Red Barn Building Supply to verify that their propane department was open. We had to tell the coordinator that we would be off the grounds, since we were on the driver availability list. When we got to the Red Barn, it turned out that their propane guy had "probably gone to town for a part" and would "probably be back soon." We ended up waiting half an hour for our propane. Vern pulled up just as we returned and graciously carried the heavy tanks to their holders.

Exciting day.

Jacalyn came by to invite us to participate in a group letter to the board of the Center. The volunteers are concerned that our assignments are too burdensome, and it seems that the director and the board have little idea what the volunteers do. We are definitely counting the days until we finish our stint here and move on to Tyler. Fortunately, tomorrow is our day off, and this time we don't have to work on a garage sale or get our rig weighed.

Brad and Jacalyn's big Volvo tractor has been having problems. It finally refused to start at Wal-mart, so Jacalyn was fixing supper by herself. Brad was waiting for the tow truck. Coachnet is paying to have it towed to Houston, since that's the nearest Volvo dealer.
