Organizing the Huge Garage Sale

We started today at 6:45 a.m. on call, opening the CARE Center. When we were relieved at 8:30 a.m., we were on the schedule for doing residents' laundry. In between loads we joined the other volunteers in trying to organize huge quantities of stuff of all sorts. Every time we got some things a bit organized, twice as much more would arrive from storage.

We took a quick break to eat lunch before heading over to our next assignment: cooking spaghetti for 35 for the evening meal. (Somewhere in the volunteer handbook, it suggests that volunteers prepare simple soup and sandwich meals on Monday and Tuesday evenings.) When we finished for the day, we went for a very short walk before heading home to collapse. At that point we realized that we had been on our feet for most of 12 hours. Ouch!

We made plans to get up early again tomorrow and set up breakfast so we could get out quickly. Ken has an assignment to drive a resident to the doctor at 7:30 a.m. About all we were up to was watching the last part of the Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club--another bittersweet triumph for our hero, Lord Peter Whimsey.
