Heading North

We got up early this morning because we had a long drive ahead of us: 253 miles and probably at least six hours to get to our next stop, Tyler State Park. Since Texas state park reservations are not site specific, you get to choose from the sites available when you arrive, so we figured the earlier the better. We actually got on the highway at 8;20 a.m., which is a world record for us (we usually leave between 9:30 and 10:30). The first part of our trip was on I-35, but at Waco we turned east on Texas Hwy 31. We got to see several small Texas towns. In Corsicana we stopped for lunch at a nice little city park.

We needed propane, so when we got to Tyler, we went first to Mallory Propane. It's a very convenient and efficient place to get your tanks filled. Then we headed around the loop and north on Texas Hwy 14 to Tyler State Park. We lucked out, because a camp host was just telling the office that site #40 had been vacated early. It turned out to be perfect for us. It has shade and plenty of room--and our Qube had no trouble finding a signal.

By the time we got set up, both of us were pretty bushed. It took us nearly seven hours to get here, which is longer than we like to travel. We'll get a good night's sleep and go to visit Dick and Carol tomorrow.
We walked around the Big Pine loop where we are camped and the Lakeview loop. Many of the Lakeview sites are too small for us, but some would definitely fit us, and we really like the ones on the lake.
