Egg Hunt, Picnic--and We Have a New Truck!

Tyler State Park celebrated the holiday today with an egg hunt and a chance to meet the Big Bunny for "kids 0-12." Dick and Carol arrived at our campsite first, and the four of us walked over to the amphitheater. Robert and Debbie and the kids parked at the amphitheater, so they were there before we arrived. Crowds of kids and families were gathered around with their Easter baskets. Rangers had divided the lawn above the amphitheater into three sections with caution tape, one for 0-4, one for 5-8, and one for 9-12. Meanwhile the Big Bunny was posing with kids and cameras clicked all around. We had one kid in each age group, which made picture taking a bit easier.

First, Debbie helped Sam "find" some eggs. Actually, the eggs weren't hidden--just scattered around the grass. Then it was Robby's turn. He dashed around picking up plastic eggs. He was lucky enough to find one of the specially marked prize eggs, so after the hunt, he went to the ranger van to pick up his prize--a "Magic Spring" (which looked a lot like a fluorescent green plastic Slinky). Finally it was Christine's turn. She joined the line of hard-charging older kids, but hung back a bit. On the signal to "go!" she ran quickly around the left flank of the group and so managed to find quite a few eggs. That was a real feat, since the older kids snatched up all the eggs in record time.

Meanwhile, Ken had returned to the campsite to light the grill and put on a pot of water to cook the corn on the cob. By the time we got back from the egg hunt, he had the burgers nearly cooked and the first batch of corn almost ready. Everyone pitched in to carry all the food out to the picnic table.

We had a great picnic. The corn on the cob was a real hit, and everyone enjoyed the refreshing cold watermelon for dessert. Our campsite worked out really well for the occasion. Ken set up our larger aluminum table back by the lantern holder post and put the grill on it. That kept it out of the way of the kids. We had plenty of room for them to run around and play with some of their Easter toys.

Kids are tired, it's time to go home, but Ken gets one last photo.

Dick was scheduled to do one of the readings at church tonight, so he and Carol left just after 4:00 p.m. so he could rest up and change. Robert and Debbie and the kids left soon after, but not before we got a final photo and plenty of hugs. They're celebrating tomorrow with Robert's family, so we won't see them again this trip.

Ken got a call this afternoon from Gary Floyd, the salesman who ordered our new truck. He called to say he was holding the keys to our truck. Yay! We've been a bit anxious that it might not arrive in time. Now we know it's in Junction City. Gary will take care of getting the bed lining and the auxillary electrical connection in the bed of the truck put in. He'll also call Phil to make arrangements for the hitch, the controls for the ABS brakes, and the rear view camera display to be installed.

On our walks today, we spotted some wildlife and just enjoyed the scenery, especially the lake. It's been quite peaceful here, despite the holiday crowds.

We are very happy that Gary was hired by the outfit in Junction City that bought Green Ford in Abilene (where Gary was working at the time we ordered the truck). Gary has been really good to work with.

We were in the middle of getting ready for the picnic when I realized that I was coming down with a UTI. It's been quite a while, but I definitely still recognize the symptoms! Fortunately, I had medicine to take and some cranberry juice to drink, so I hope I'm on the mend.
