Long Day's Journey to Grand Canyon Trailer Village

After a two week stay in the Phoenix area, we packed up this morning and headed north. Our destination was Trailer Village, the full hookup campground at Grand Canyon National Park. For us it was a long trip, 200 miles and six hours traveling.  We filled up with diesel in Williams because we were advised that it would be quite pricey in the park. Even in Williams it wasn't cheap at $4.19.

We were glad to arrive at the campground around 5:00 p.m. Fortunately in June we had plenty of daylight to set up camp. Our site, D18, was relatively easy to get into, but we had to negotiate some sharp turns and overhanging branches.  All the sites in this campground are pull thrus. We were advised when we checked in that ravens around here like to peck at sewer hoses, so it would be best if we only pull the hose out when we need to dump. We haven't run into that problem before, but in one campground we did encounter squirrels that liked to gnaw through our fresh water hoses.

After dinner we walked over to Mather Campground. It has no hookups and is limited to vehicles up to 30 ft. only. We saw quite a few tents and open campfires. There are signs posted that fire restrictions that go into effect Friday will prohibit all open fires.
