Back to Scottsdale

Ken had his dentist appointment this afternoon to get the prep work done for his new crown. I dropped him off and then went shopping and over to Jan's to start the laundry. She had given me the code for her garage door opener and told me I would definitely have to use it to get into the house. So when I opened the garage door and saw a car, I was surprised.

It turned out that Larry was at home after his tennis match. He knew I was expected, so we introduced ourselves. He is the kind of guy who has never met a stranger.  He welcomed me in and showed me how to use the washer. Soon he was showing me photos of his daughter's wedding, which he went back east to attend last week. She's a lovely girl, and it looked like a great week, right up to wedding on Saturday and the brunch Sunday before he flew back to Phoenix.

After a bit Ken called to say he was ready to be picked up at the dentist's. Meanwhile Larry went grocery shopping for some things he needed for dinner. When Jan came home, I joined her and Larry in their weekly volunteer job of making lunches for homeless people in a program to help them get jobs and homes. It's sponsored by local churches, and their church takes a weekly turn at providing the people with a nourishing hot dinner, a bed for the night, breakfast, and lunch for the next day. They even had a portable shower pod outside,

Larry grilled chicken and fixed corn on the cob and asparagus for dinner, with fruit and 3-2-1 cake for dessert (Google it: easy and delicious). We had a great time and got to know Larry much better. He and Jan have a great deal in common, and they seem very happy together.

For one thing, they are both animal lovers.

Lucky and Rocky lounge in their kitty condo.

Here's a good shot of Rocky's cute pink nose--and curiosity to go with it!

Happy went to the groomer today, so he's been prancing around. The cats think he smells unfamiliar.

Fresh fruit and chocolate mug cake (3-2-1 cake) for dessert. Jan made hers lemon flavored with lemon curd topping.

On the way home, Ken realized that he'd left his tablet behind, and I thought "Oh no!" because of course I had left my iPad and the Jetpack behind too. Darn!
