Another Hot, Quiet Day

This heat is debilitating, and I'm getting cabin fever. I'd love to get out and do some hiking, but it would be foolhardy in this heat. Today there was also an air quality alert for elevated ozone levels. Fortunately, the forecast for the Grand Canyon South Rim, where we're going on Wednesday, looks very good: sunny with highs in the low to mid 80s, so we have something to look forward to.

Aunt Iris called today. She and Beth will be driving to New Bern next week to celebrate her 80th birthday with the family there. She seemed to be in good spirits for a gal who's turning 80 on June 14. She shares a birthday with Molly, who won't be quite that old! But it's hard to believe she'll be 19.

This evening we finished watching a PBS show on the landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day. What a massive undertaking, and what a tragic human toll. We also finished watching a special on Alice Walker.  I read and re-read The Color Purple years ago, but knew little otherwise about Walker, so I learned a great deal I hadn't known about her influence on multiple liberation movements.

Tonight the coyotes have a yipping chorus going quite nearby. I suspect they're attracted by all the quail and bunnies.
