Party On!

We started the day today driving to Nuevo Progreso and walking across the bridge into Progreso, Mexico, to join our friends for a birthday celebration for G.W. and for Mildred. We gathered at Jessica's Center, where Santiago and Toni have joined forces as "Santoni." We ended up adding more and more tables to accommodate everyone. We had around 30 at the table for drinks (margaritas for us) and lunch.

Here's the birthday girl and Hugh

We definitely overtaxed the capacity of the kitchen. The first folks to get their meals had long ago finished eating before the last person was served, which was rather awkward. Everyone enjoyed the birthday cake and the humorous birthday cards and wished G.W. and Mildred very happy birthdays.

In the evening we went to a Christmas gift exchange, the kind where people take turns choosing wrapped gifts from under the tree--or stealing a gift that has already been opened. Since there were more than 50 people, the game took over two hours, with lots of fun and laughter.

Large tins of cookies were very popular and therefore stolen, as were wine and spirits. I ended up with a package of Johnsonville crackers and sausages and cheese food. Ken selected a gift which turned out to be an electrical wine opener. It was later stolen, and he stole a bottle of amaretto to replace it. When that was also stolen, he stole a gift certificate to the Red Snapper restaurant in Progreso. Our gang is going to Progreso again January 4, and we plan to eat at the Red Snapper, so that worked out quite well.

It was in the 70's today, with sunshine much of the day, and Christmas will be sunny and warm. We soaked a while in the hot tub.
