Impossible Dreaming

The highlight of our day today was a trip to UTPA to see the musical Man of La Mancha with Hardy and Judy. The Albert L. Jeffers Theater is an intimate space, a theater in the round. We had general admission tickets but could hardly have had better seats.

We enjoyed the performance, especially since it's one of our favorite musicals. The lead (Cervantes/Don Quixote) teaches at the university now, but was a student and performed in the role of the padre when Man of La Mancha was last presented, in 1986. The young woman who played Aldonza/Dulcinea turned in a moving performance and had a fine voice. Sancho was great--a good counterpoint to his master--and the muleteers were a convincing bunch of ruffians. We loved the performance of the "horses"--two women who wore baskets to simulate the horses' noses. They were very funny without reaching for it at all. Some of the voices were a bit unsteady at times, but overall the experience was moving and enjoyable.

The weather today was very changeable. We were out for our walk this morning when the wind suddenly picked up and started sandblasting us, so we headed home early. This afternoon the sun came out and the earlier rain clouds had disappeared. Speaking of disappearing, the large tree came down today, and all signs of it are in the process of being erased. All that's left right now is a mound of dirt.
