Cate Is Nine!

Today is Cate's ninth birthday. We called and all sang Happy Birthday to her.

Unfortunately it was also a very sad day, as explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon spread carnage and chaos, killing three and injuring over a hundred more. Such a tragic end to a happy day in Boston, shaking the country's faith in the effectiveness of our anti-terrorism efforts, but so far no claims of responsibility and no idea what the motive may have been.

We made more progress on the landscaping. Shawn spent most of the day working on a paper for her course, but she took a break to join us in walking to the Whole Foods and again to go to Oregon Decorative Rock Company. Chris and Shawn and Anara picked out some flat stones for the tree lawn.

Meanwhile, back in Texas, some friends took Ken out to dinner at Casa de Marisco in Weslaco. (He's not in the photo, so I guess he's the photographer.)

Chris spent a few hours this morning helping me to get my computer working better. I've been having trouble with the mouse settings changing at random and with Windows crashing when the system is put to sleep. We're hoping that some of the measures he recommended will help with these problems and with general slowness to respond.
