Happy Birthday, Cate!

Today is Cate's 6th birthday. She got to go back to school after being out again with pink eye, so all her classmates sang happy birthday to her and shared treats. We met Cate and family and Kelley at the Purple Cow in Plano for a family celebration. It's a burger joint, but Ken and I had grilled tilapia, and Cate and Sam had mac and cheese.

All that was just prelude to the birthday cake and ice cream. Ed and Julie went for the purple vanilla ice cream, made specially for the Purple Cow by Blue Bell Creamery. The staff gathered to sing a special birthday song for Cate.

She got several presents, including a package from her Uncle Chris and cousin Annie, which held a book and a very special Sorry game, Sorry! Sliders. Since Sorry! is right now Cate's favorite game, Sorry! Sliders is sure to be very popular at her house.

We gave her a small zipper case with a ring made from a nail by a blacksmith at Nauvoo (a historic Mormon town we visited with our friends, the Apples). The case also contained some Mardi Gras beads and a picture of a ballerina with the information that Cate's birthday present would be ballet and tap dance lessons this summer. Her parents provided lots of presents, including ballet clothing and tap shoes. Kelley brought a cute gardening set with seeds and some small hand tools.

One of the things I'll remember most about this fun celebration is the baptism by poop provided by Cate's little brother, Jesse. Julie and I spent some quality time in the restroom using the changing table to clean him up and the washbasins and towels to clean me up. One of the joys of being a grandma!

We finished painting our hitch today, finally. Tomorrow we'll put it back together. Ken thinks I should make a cover for it so it will be less likely to rust again...
