Traveling to DC

Today was another travel day, but first we took our morning walk around the lake. This Tiger Swallowtail posed for Ken.

On our way out of the park, we stopped to get one of our propane tanks filled. Then we were on our way, at 10:15 a.m. Our first planned stop was in Breezewood, where we left the Pennsylvania Turnpike to head south of US 70.

The name "Breezewood" conjures up images from my childhood. Our family drove to New Bern every 4th of July and Christmas to visit all my mom's family in North Carolina. Dad liked to drive at night. We drove the Ohio Turnpike to the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Breezewood. We arrived at Breezewood early in the morning, just in time for breakfast in the diner there. Dad claimed that it must have good food because so many truckers ate there.

The little diner of my childhood memories is long gone. We stopped to take a quick photo of the modern version.

Aunt Iris called to tell us that her first (and probably only) great grandchild, Sophia, had been born this morning. She sounded quite excited. Beth says Mom, Dad, and baby are all fine.

We decided to eat some bananas and snacks in the car rather than stop for lunch. We wanted to avoid heavy traffic on the DC Beltway, the final leg of our trip to Cherry Hill Park. It's a very large urban park which bills itself as a "Monumental Experience" and the closest campground to DC. It's tucked in right by the intersection of the Beltway and I-95. The picture makes it look much more peaceful than it actually is.

The park is definitely resort class, with a conference center, two pools, hot tub, sauna, hiking trail, and much more. Very impressive.

We made plans with Terri to go over tomorrow to visit.
