Kennedy Center Millenium Stage

We went over to Terri's after brunch to visit and play games. I introduced Molly and Terri to Ingenious! Molly did very well, beating her mother and me in her first game. This continues the trend of the youngest player winning!

Blake grilled the stuffed Cuban pork tenderloin for dinner. Terri found the recipe in her Cooking Light 5-Ingredient recipes:

  • Bread-and-Butter Pickles
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Pork Tenderloin
  • Cilantro
  • Swiss Cheese
That seemed an unlikely combination to me, but it turned out delicious. She served it with some Trader Joe's Harvest Grains Blend:  Israeli couscous, red and green orzo, split dried garbanzo beans, and red quinoa--also very good. Molly made her usual great salad.

After dinner Terri drove Molly and Ken and me to the Kennedy Center (Blake stayed home). We attended a free performance on the Millennium Stage. We arrived very early, so we saw a bit of rehearsal. The performance by Wrhatnala USA was a celebration of Indonesian Independence Day. Indonesia celebrates 66 years of independence on August 17.

We got there early, so we saw part of the rehearsal while we waited in line for the seating to open up. The location is the Grand Foyer outside the Opera House, where the musical Wicked is being performed.

The performance included musicians and dancers in spectacular costumes.  It was described as  "Traditional Indonesian Music and Dance From the Islands of Bali, Java, Sumatra and Other Islands; Traditional Mask Dance, Mythical Giant Dance and Fusion With Martial Art." Performers ranged from young children to older people. All were enthusiastic and talented. The overflow audience was very appreciative. We especially enjoyed the dance by the older children including chanting and slapping.

The Indonesian ambassador to the US, Dr. Dino Patti Djalal, gave a final speech. He was very gracious in his remarks. A video of the performance can be seen on the Kennedy Center website.

We were delighted at the performance and happy to have the opportunity to visit the Kennedy Center. The Millennium Stage performances are free every night at 6:00 p.m.

When we returned to Terri's house, we had mixed fruit shortcakes for dessert, topped with whipped cream.
