Kelley Visits

At 8:15 this morning, I was startled to hear an unfamiliar ringtone. As I fumbled to answer it, I saw that it was Kelley calling. She was on her way to school. I was on my way out of dreamland. (Not to worry, Kelley--it was time for us to wake up anyhow....) She asked if we were going to be at Ed's later today. We were, and she said she'd be over after school too.

We took our walk after lunch, when we figured it would be warmer. It was actually sunny and 60 degrees, and I took my jacket off after a few minutes of walking. We went over to the day use area to check out prospects for having a picnic there. The playground equipment isn't exactly built for toddlers, but Cate and Sam should do fine on it, and there are some nearby tables shaded by some large trees.

It was great to see Kelley. We talked about her student teaching and her plans. She doesn't care for middle school (grades 6-8), especially since they seem to have little discipline. She'll be taking her teacher certification exams during the next couple of weeks. She has four more weeks of student teaching, and then she'll start subbing (at least until she gets a full-time job).

She has a new love interest, a man named Mason Kelley. The story of their meeting is definitely 21st century. She saw him at a bar with a friend and went up to him. They talked, and he told her his name, but he didn't get her number. The next day she was talking with her friends and one said, "Why don't you just Facebook him?" She remembered his name, of course, especially since his last name is spelled just like her first name. The rest is history. They've been dating for a couple of months now.

We had a good evening together. She helped make a spaghetti dinner and played with the kids. Cate is especially enamored of her.

I played Wii balance games with Cate and Sam, and then Jesse wanted to take a turn. He was so cute on the balance board, and his penguin actually caught 45 fish! He thinks he's such a big boy. He's sure cute. At one point Ed was holding him and he was unhappy. Cate walked over and he interrupted his tantrum long enough to say cheese and smile because he thought she was taking his picture!

Jesse is a real ham! It's impossible to get a candid shot of him because as soon as he sees a camera, he's sure to say cheese!

Tomorrow we'll go to Ikea with Julie and meet Ed there. They're looking for a desk for Sam. He's very excited about it.
