NABA

We rode down to the North American Butterfly Center this morning for a special group tour. Max Munoz, garden manager, gave an enlightening presentation on butterflies and their host plants. He emphasized the importance of avoiding plants that have been treated with pesticides.

The walls of the NABA pavilion are painted a bright fluorescent green: the same color as the inside of a butterfly’s chrysalis.

Great Purple Hairstreak on a mist flower. Note the decoy antennae at the back end.

Sulphur butterfly nectaring on a lovely lantana blossom.

This evening we had a painter over to give us an estimate for painting our Texas room. We liked him and he came very well recommended, so we gave him a deposit. Tomorrow morning we'll go buy the paint, and he'll supply the rest of what's needed, which simplifies our lives. Yikes, it's only a week before Terri and Molly arrive!

We went to Darryl's dance tonight. We had four squares plus one couple. Darryl played around with concentric calls from an O formation. Hardy and Judy were there. They leave tomorrow morning along with Steve and Jan and Cheryl and Curt to go to Galveston for Dickens on the Strand. On Sunday, Hardy and Judy will leave on a one-week cruise.
