Friends Are Golden

Tonight we went to Romney's Monday night A-2 workshop. That's something we did for years--before we retired and left Southern California. Coming back tonight, everything seemed almost as if we had been here last week, instead of over four years ago. There were some new faces, but plenty of familiar ones too. We were especially delighted to see John and Peggy again--and to see John and Sandy Hill's smiling faces.

We saw and danced with some other folks too, like Richard and Heidi and David and Jodi, Rogues who have joined the club since we hit the road. Some others we saw included Carl and Barbara, Fred and Joyce, Fred Walterreit, Mike and Jan Taylor, Charlie and Lorraine, Jan Gipson, Ron and Shirley, Alan and Sandra, Bruce, Joy, and lots more.

Romney will be in Missouri next week, so there will be no Monday night A-2 workshop. Romney took advantage of this situation by teasing people, saying things like "If I were you I wouldn't come next week."

After the workshop, John and Sandy suggesting adjourning to the pizza place next door for a glass of wine and conversation. Unfortunately, the pizza place closes early, so we ended up having a diet Coke at the Subway across the street instead, with John and Sandy and John and Peggy. The friendly conversation was still wonderful.

We were lucky to see John and Sandy, because they were out of town last week, visiting New York City with friends. They saw all the sights and three Broadway musicals.

John Hill told us about his LASIK surgery. He used to have 20/2000 vision and had to wear coke bottle glasses, but now has great distance vision without glasses (although he still uses reading glasses). He looks quite different without the glasses we were used to seeing him wearing.

We were also lucky to see John and Peggy again. They practically never go to the Monday night A-2 workshop, dancing mainly C-2 instead. Peggy has Tuesdays off, so they were able to make an exception to come dance with us one last time before we leave town tomorrow. John was telling us about his brother Harry and sister-in-law Denise moving to Texas. They're not in close touch, but one of the national callers mentioned having seen Harry and Denise at a square dance in Texas, so evidently they are still dancing. We used to dance with them years ago at Trailblazers.

We talked some also about the sorry state of our country. It seems that big money has inordinate influence. We're all concerned also about the loss of rights brought on by the fear factor after 9/11.

This morning we went to Fairway Ford in Placentia. It's a Ford dealership, but it also has a complete RV repair center. We asked them to add valve extensions on our dually tires so that we'd be able to check and air them easily. They did a great job and were very friendly and helpful. The inside tires are now equipped with steel braided extensions. For the outer tires we were able to use the 135 degree solid extensions that we already had from the Silverado. This was an expensive solution, but it will serve us well by providing both easy access to the valve stems and peace of mind.

On the way home we stopped at the car wash and washed the truck. It looked much better, but as we drove back to the Elks Lodge, Ken remarked on the dark clouds ahead. Just our luck that it might rain on our newly washed truck! Fortunately, it didn't.
