Dancing and a Movie

We are enjoying some balmy weather, but a cold front is on the way. The wind has definitely picked up.

We danced this afternoon to Darryl at TVA. We missed our friends Jan and Steve, who have non-dancing company. We also missed Hardy and Judy. We were expecting to see them, but they no-showed. Judy sent an email explaining that they had called the tree trimmers and been surprised that they wanted to do the work today.

We stopped on the way home from the dance and ordered a spiral sliced ham to pick up on Friday. We'll take it over to Judy, who generously offered to cook it in her big roaster. We lucked out--HEB is having a sale this week, offering a $10 off coupon.

Tonight we went to the Cinema 6. Mondays are senior special days, and groups of three or more get in for 75 cents each. What a bargain! We saw Social Network. It won the Golden Globe award for best picture (drama) and has been nominated for a best picture Oscar. I found the movie a fascinating exploration of the ironic juxtaposition of online isolation and "social" networks, partially exemplified by the socially ambitious but inept main characters.

I could have done with a bit less of the sex/partying/loud music/drugs, but overall I found myself carried along by the high energy and tension of the conflicts among the characters. Ken and some of the others prefer more positive entertainment. Interestingly, several of us agreed that we had felt motivated to drop out of Facebook because we didn't want to be associated with the greed and deception and betrayal that are depicted as being at the heart of the Facebook phenomenon.
Judy brought two bags of grapefruits along and said to let her know if we needed more. The tree trimmers left her with boxes full of grapefruits from their tree.
