SAXsational!

The highlight of the day was the Community Concert featuring SAXsational!, an unusual program featuring Rob Verdi. He's a saxophone aficionado who has a large collection of unusual saxophones, from the tiny to the huge--even a slide sax. He was a founding member of the Side Street Strutters Jazz Band, featured at Disneyland for 22 years. (He promised not to play "It's a Small World" tonight.) He did play a selection of twenties and thirties jazz, using a different instrument for each piece. In addition to the music we were treated to some historical information about the saxophone, plus some humor that had the hall laughing and applauding.

For the second half of the program, he was accompanied by the Sharyland High School Honor Band. They were terrific, and we all agreed the night was one of the most entertaining ever in the Community Concert series. Steve and Jan rode with us, so we got a chance to catch up a bit. They've been busy with their daughter Cheryl's visit, so we hadn't seen them for a while.

Our mission earlier today was to buy a 100 lb. propane tank with hose and fittings from Mr. G's Propane. Now all we have to do is get it home and install it. Fortunately since it's brand new and has never had propane in it, it's safe to transport lying down in the truck bed. On the way home we mailed a wedding present for Jeff and Sabrina. The clerk at the post office tried her best to up-sell me, first offering two day delivery for $36.

We stopped by Target to pick up some prescriptions, the first this year with our new insurance. The good news was that the prescriptions were ready. The bad news was that they had charged us full retail, even though we had given them the insurance information. After some delay and apologies, that was straightened out, and I picked up a Target gift card for a birthday present.
