Portland Museum of Art

Shawn was busy with her art class and then doing a friend's hair during the morning and first part of the afternoon. The rest of us decided to visit the Portland Museum of Art, of which Chris and Shawn are members. The first trick was finding and then getting into a parking place on street near the museum. That meant that I had to actually parallel park the F450--but I had lots of assistance from Chris and Ken and got in on the second try (yay!).

As we walked to the museum, we passed many "plein air" artists painting in the park area outside the museum. The smell of oil paints was in the air.

On the way into the museum we encountered the special exhibit of the Prints of Ellsworth Kelly. Mainly lithographs, they feature large geometric shapes. Most of the shapes are monochrome, with each print having one to three colors and shapes.

Of course we couldn't possibly see everything at the museum, but we made a point of finding the special exhibit of California impressionists. Many of these included scenes we recognized from our time in Southern California.

In the evening we went for a walk through the neighborhood. On the way home we walked through Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery. It has many magnificent trees and lots of historical graves as well as more current burials.

This morning on the way to the duplex we stopped at the Troutdale Open Air Market. As usual we found lots of good food, including yellow squash and zucchini that we used this evening to make Yellow Squash and Black Bean Stew, another one of Carol's recipes. We used a tomato for the salad, too (for Shawn and Ken and me--Chris and Annie don't care for raw tomatoes). I like using fresh local produce.
