Blue Lake Picnic

We all slept in this morning--some of us later than others. When I started to deflate Annie's bed, she was still in it--reading, of course.

Get up, Annie!

After breakfast we packed a picnic lunch and drove over to Blue Lake Regional Park. There was a traffic jam at the entrance, which surprised us on a Friday afternoon, but we soon realized that a major event was taking place, a USACE picnic. The parking lots were filling up, but we found a spot and a picnic table in the shade near the swimming beach.

After a bit we walked around the Natural Discovery Garden, a demonstration garden of mainly Oregon native plants. It includes a "Grow your own pizza" section, with plants like basil, eggplant, tomatoes, and onions laid out in pie shaped sections.

After exploring the garden for a while, we walked over to the wetland at the west end of the lake. Most of what we saw there was lily pads and flowers. Annie spotted a couple of ducks feeding among the lily pads and some minnows swimming in the water.

We ate our picnic lunch and then Annie and I waded a bit before we headed home. We collected our laundry and drove to the duplex, arriving just after Chris got home from work. This evening we set out walking the Buckman area checking out art galleries and workshops open for the First Friday Art Walk.

We walked home to fix dinner, which included some yummy leftovers and West African Peanut Soup from the Soup Cycle. After dinner it was getting pretty late, so we decided to call it an evening and visit more art galleries another day.

We got a couple of our loads of laundry done. The third load, which included some clothes from Annie and Chris, finished washing, but Chris will dry it in the morning. Everyone was tired, and we got ready to leave. About that time Shawn and Coach arrived, back from their trip to the coast.
