Fantastic Fox at Edgefield

This morning on our bike ride we headed over to Halsey Road, where we had noticed that the blackberries are ripening. This time I brought along some bags so I could pick berries. That's not Ken's thing, so he got in some biking while I picked enough berries for a cobbler--and then some. Large juicy blackberries beckoned to me from every direction. I wore long pants and a long sleeved shirt to help protect myself from the thorns, but part of the price of blackberry picking is a few thorn sticks.

Chris and Annie came over for dinner. I fixed one of Carol's recipes, Aromatic Noodles with Lime Peanut Sauce. The recipe calls for ginger in the sauce, which Annie doesn't care for, so I pulled out some sauce for her before adding the ginger. Everyone seemed to like it. We decided to wait until later for the blackberry cobbler.

Edward called to let me know they had sold the house. They put it on the market on Tuesday and sold it Wednesday evening, after a bidding war. They sold it for $6,000 more than they had listed it for. Flower Mound's real estate market must be picking up. They will close toward the end of August and move to Georgia, so they'll be gone before we make it back to the Dallas area. I'll miss having the chance to visit and spend time with the kids every spring and fall, but I know they are excited and happy about the move. They'll be staying with their good friends while they look for a house in Atlanta.

After dinner we went over to Edgefield to listen to music and watch an outdoor movie. We thought the music started at 7:00 p.m. as usual, but this evening the group started playing at 6:00 p.m. It was the Brian Copeland Band, and evidently it's a popular group judging by the crowd gathered to hear them. We pulled up our chairs and settled in to enjoy the music. The band took a break, and we walked around Edgefield, checking out the gardens and the whole layout, including the unusual art in the main lodge.

I liked the whole atmosphere of the place and especially of the crowd gathered for the music, with blankets on the ground and kids running around having fun.

After the concert, a temporary screen was set up on the lawn nearby for a showing of Fantastic Mr. Fox, an animated film that got pretty good reviews. We all enjoyed it and had some laughs.

Back at home, we had our blueberry cobbler with vanilla frozen yogurt--quite yummy.

Chris helped us set up the blow-up mattress for Annie's bed. It's the first time we've actually used it, and our inexperience showed. We plugged in the pump and watched the mattress take shape. Chris headed home because he has to get up for work in the morning. It seemed to take forever to get the mattress firm enough. After a while, I decided to try it out, but I slowly sank toward the floor. I heard a hissing sound. Was there a hole?

We turned off the pump, and Annie quickly found the "hole"--we had left the backup valve open! After she closed that, it was only moments before her bed was just right and she jumped in to read.

Shawn wasn't with us today because she decided to go to the coast to stay with her mom and Ken for a couple of days to de-stress and work on a school paper.
