Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden

We had a beautiful day today for our outing to the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in Portland. The sun shone and the water sparkled, and the gardens were alight with color from the featured rhododendrons and lovely "companion plants," including cherry trees in bloom and lovely maples.

The little preserve and lake form a wonderful habitat for wild waterfowl, including lots of ducks and geese. Since it's springtime, we saw loads of cute downy ducklings and goslings.

Goslings!

Chris spotted a muskrat contentedly munching in a grassy clearing.

After our visit to the garden, we spent some time cruising a couple of antique malls before taking a bus to the New Seasons grocery store and heading home.

We played a couple of games today. One was the Lord of the Rings with the Sauron expansion--Annie played Sauron with wicked gusto, but Chris and I, playing Frodo and Sam, managed to make our way to Mordor and destroy the One Ring. Score one for the Hobbits! Tonight Chris won Can't Stop! He was on a roll and couldn't stop--and we couldn't stop him.
