We headed out this morning to find a place to stay in Walsenburg, 185 miles south along I-25. We checked out one very sorry, run down, noisy place on the highway and almost convinced ourselves that we could handle staying there for a couple of days. Then we decided to take a chance and call the nearby state park. Online it had seemed to be fully reserved, but it turned out they had plenty of spaces during the week, but are full on weekends.
That's how we ended up in site 92 in Lathrop State Park, with a wonderful view of the Spanish Peaks out our breakfast window. Hardy and Judy drove down from Silvercliff, where they had been exploring, and joined us for supper and a good chance to catch up with good friends.
We really like this campground. We have a long open pull-through and 50 amp electric. We had to find a water hydrant and fill up, because most of the electric sites do not have water on-site, but for three days that's no problem.
