New Laptops!

We set out today to do more shopping (gotta take advantage of the big city opportunities). I found a pair of Shape-Ups. Skechers doesn't make narrow sizes, but their medium width seemed to fit okay (here's hoping it stays that way).

On the way home, driving down I-25, Ken commented on a large building with yellow and dark blue trim that looked just like an Ikea, but the name on the sign was too long for Ikea. We looked as we got closer and found that it said "Ultimate Electronics."

Eureka! Just what we've been looking for. We got off at the exit and drove into the parking lot. It's a huge complex, but when we walked in the front door, the store was just normal sized. It turned out that this is the corporate headquarters and major distribution center.

We went immediately to look at the laptops, of course, and found an HP similar to one that we had been checking out at Best Buy, one that had gotten really good reviews on CNET. This model was exactly the same--except that it has bluetooth--and the price was $70 cheaper than at Best Buy. It got even better--it comes with a $50 mail-in rebate. We ended up deciding to buy two of them, so we saved $240 over Best Buy's price. They're HP DM4 1060US 14.1" screen, 4.4 lbs. and with a newer, faster processor operating Windows 7. It will take us a while to migrate our programs and files to the new computers.

Ken got really frustrated tonight because his attempts to create recovery discs were unsuccessful. We've decided that the problem may be that our DVDs are too old.
