Cold Front

We woke this morning to find the world changed. Instead of warm sun and calm, we had blustery winds kicking up waves on the lake, and the temperature had dropped by 20 degrees. Rain was threatening. We decided to stay inside, warm and dry, for the morning.

This afternoon we gathered up our laundry and headed to town, to the only laundromat we could find, the Laundry Hamper. We did our laundry but were quite unhappy that almost all the dryers were out of order. We did some grocery shopping, and I did some thrifting. Then we stopped at Braum's for a Black Forest sundae. Ken had never been to a Braum's, and this one was quite unusual. In addition to the grill and ice cream, it had a small convenience store.

It was sunny and cool when we went for a hike this afternoon. We followed a paved trail, mainly to avoid the mud. It had clearly rained at the lake while we were in town, and our driveway had turned into a large mud puddle. Even the paved trail had mud washed over it, so we had to pick our way around--almost like hiking in the swamps in Florida!

Alongside the trail Ken spotted two grave stones. They looked new and very much out of place in the middle of the woods in a state park. Sadly, they mark the graves of two children. The first, Alma Aletha Harris, was less than a year old when she died. The second, born four months after the death of the first, was only a few days old. Her stone read just "Baby." They died in 1916.
