Scottsdale Old Town Farmer's Market

Our first adventure today was a trip to the Scottsdale Old Town Farmer's Market. We found lots of appealing veggies and fruit to scoop up, mainly from McClendon's. We also found eggs from a family farm. For lunch we split a baguette with tomato, arugula, and hummus, a strawberry smoothie made only with tasty strawberries (no sugar or other additives), and a rice krispie treat layer dessert with nutella. All were yummy.

Then we went on to Jan's house. The first thing she did was excitedly show us the hummingbird nest outside her front door with two little nestlings in it. She actually got to see one of them hatch.

Happy met us in the driveway too, but he was not his usual chipper self. He was wearing a shoulder brace. Jan explained that he had dislocated a shoulder jumping out of a truck. Now his nickname is Tripod.

After we visited for a while, Jan took us to the garage to see George's Christmas gift to her--a Christmas village complete with two running trains. Although she had once put lots of energy into decorating for Christmas, she has downsized that recently, but she appreciated the thought. However, she'll probably be putting it on craigslist next holiday season.

After we swapped stories for a while, Jan got ready to attend the 25th anniversary party of some dear friends. She was the maid of honor all those years ago and still had the dress she wore for the ceremony. What a kick that she was still able to wear it to show up for the party!

Jan has a busy social life, lots of friends, and is involved in her real estate work. She stays close to George's son Steve and family--attending the kids' concerts and football games, etc. None of that makes up for missing George. His spirit still lives in the house he decorated and in all the memories.
