Repairs and Travel

This morning we woke up at D & R Family RV, where we overnighted to wait for our planned propane installation. Chris arrived at 8:00 a.m., ready to work. He explained that his dad, Ron, was not planning on coming in today, but that he (Chris) had done countless propane installations.

Chris not only did a very professional job of installing the new propane line--he also designed legs for the heater out of angle iron. Although the dealer who sold it to us assured us that feet were available, that turned out not to be the case with this heater, which was designed for wall installation. Chris lit the heater and showed us how to use it.

He also fixed our toilet, which had suddenly developed a mysterious leak, and he put a bead of sealant on the new fender.

Around 2:30 p.m. we headed north to Camp Verde, just south of Sedona on I-17. When we arrived at the Camp Verde exit, we called Don Miller and followed his instructions to his house. Well, we thought we were following his instructions . . . We passed the church parking lot we were supposed to turn into and headed up the road for the only thing that looked like a church (it had a cross on top). Turned out the Assembly of God Church had only a sign visible from the road. We found it on our second pass, and Don was waiting for us. He directed us to a spot next to the house--after he moved his motorhome out of the way. We had hardly expected our hosts to move their own rig to make room for ours. This is another wonderful place we found in the Day's End Directory--an overnight spot for traveling SKPs (Escapees) offered by former members Don and Peg Miller.

After we got set up, we went to visit with Don and Peg for a few minutes. They have a sweet little comical dog. Don was in the military, and they lived in Alaska for many years. Recently they moved back to Arizona to help care for Don's 89-year-old mother, who lives in an assisted living facility in Phoenix. They try to travel some and keep up with their RV Forum friends, but have not been doing extensive travel since the mother's health is not good. We were touched by their kind welcome to strangers on the road.

The Millers have a lovely spot on a hilltop, with views of the valley below. We went for a walk tonight and admired the sparkling stars in the dark night sky.
