We made it back to the Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park for one last bike ride today. It was quiet in the park: not many visitors, and most of the feeder stations not supplied. We did find quite a few birds at the Green Jay Blind, where the feeders had been filled. A pair of cardinals perched on the same branch and touched beaks. Lots of green jays and redwing blackbirds chattered and chased each other. A single dove stationed under a seed feeder made a meal on the seeds dropped by the jays and blackbirds. A golden fronted woodpecker visited. Of course we also saw plenty of grackles and plain chachalacas.
We also got our teeth cleaned and examined at Dr. Tomas Canales Dental Center, which we also went to in 2010. We'd have gone back sooner except that apparently he wasn't in our dental insurance network in 2011 or 2012. We have a hard time finding Cigna dentists and scheduling cleanings at least six months apart--and also trying to maintain some continuity in our dental care. We liked Delta Dental much better, but it's not available to Northrop Grumman retirees, unfortunately.
We stopped by Green Gate Grove to check on things while we were in the neighborhood and put some of the stuff in the shed in storage containers. We checked our mailbox, which we expected to find empty since we had put a block of wood in it. That's the signal to the mail carrier not to deliver any mail while folks are out of town to avoid having the box stuffed with junk mail. To our surprise we actually found some mail (junk mail and some things for the Hermans). The mail carrier just happened to be there at the time, so we were able to see that a sticky note had been posted saying to deliver mail for Marks. We removed that and told the carrier we didn't want any mail in the box, so that should take care of that issue.
On the way home we stopped at the Trenton Rd. HEB and stocked up for the last time before we head north on Thursday. We also stopped for Blue DEF at the Flying J and went to Slik Pitt Car Wash and Lube in Elso to scope out the lay of the land. We're planning to stop Thursday morning to get the trailer inspected.
Tonight we watched the first episode of Bletchley Park, a TV miniseries on PBS. We enjoyed it (I looked away during the gorier parts). We recognized one of the actors, Anna Maxwell Smith, and scratched our heads over how we knew her. It turned out that she played the lead role in South Riding, another TV miniseries on PBS but from the BBC.
