Fun and Games

This afternoon we went to the palapa in the 300 Circle to join some friends in a game of Mexican Train. We moved our table into an alcove protected from the wind, and it was quite pleasant. Debbie had never played before--so of course she won. Tim pointed out that it's even more fun after a couple of glasses of wine.... We'll have to try that next time.

Our other fun today was filing our federal income tax. We used CompleteTax.com, our first time to use an online service and e-file.  We ended up owing money (which we knew we would), so we got the "Deluxe" service for free. The website explains that they take pity on the poor souls who owe money: "It's another way CompleteTax takes the pain out of doing your taxes." Well, I've got to say we still felt the pain!

I'm still reading Five Years to Freedom. It's a memoir of life as a POW in Vietnam, written by James "Nicki" Rowe, a local boy. Nicki Rowe High School is named after him. It's the sort of book that, if it were on television news, would be prefaced by a viewer warning about graphic and disturbing images.
