Despite the cold and rain, Jean's hiking group all made it to South Padre Island today. Some of them even hiked along the beach, although Jean had suggested that walking inland would offer some protection from the wind. They had a good lunch, but the sunset dolphin watching cruise was cancelled on account of the weather.
Jean and two of her friends, Mary and Kay, got a consolation prize of sorts: they were able to attend the New Shanghai Circus this evening (offered as part of the McAllen Community Concert Series). The Chinese acrobats were amazing. They are all young, fit, talented, graceful--and at least one is double jointed! They got lots of applause from an appreciative audience.
Today we spent some time planning our trip to France and defrosting the refrigerator/freezer. In between we walked around the park, wearing our coats and hats and gloves and hoping it wouldn't rain. It was definitely cold, wet, and windy. Yuck.
