Today was a sunny, hot day, with a high near 90˚. We went to
Darryl’s C-2 lesson from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a break for lunch. We
had six squares and seven people to start, until we were able to get Bill and
Wendy to join us to make seven squares.
Darryl announced that next Saturday would be the last
Saturday lesson and that the remaining calls would be taught during his C-2
workshops and dances and the class level Tuesday evening dance.
We stopped for a few groceries on the way home. We put them
away and were getting ready for a bike ride when we heard a knock on the door.
It was Jean, who wanted to introduce her friend Mary. Mary flew in today from
Indy, with the usual expected flight delays and missed connections. She was due
to arrive here at 10:30 a.m., but didn't actually arrive until over four hours
later. Mary will be staying in Jan and Steve’s Texas room, but first she needed to
decompress. As we were leaving for our bike ride, I think they were looking
forward to a margarita.
Mary is in Texas as part of a group from Jean’s Indy hiking
club. They are here for a series of hikes and other events that Jean had
planned. Of course she expected to be hiking along with them until she broke
her ankle. We are glad she was able to make it to Texas to coordinate the group’s activities.
We biked down to the state park and twice around the outer
loop there, for a ten mile ride in just over an hour. We had to stop much more
often for water than we have been. We saw lots of people at the park, including
some groups of kids. That’s always a welcome sight.
