We managed to do some travel planning today. Some of what we learned was where we didn't want to go. That includes steep and winding mountain roads and long stretches with no towns or places to overnight. We have decided that Google Maps needs to add more options to its routing. For example, to limit grades, avoid low clearances, or stay on US highways or interstates.
We had been thinking of taking an inland route from Las Vegas to Portland and possibly going via Lake Tahoe. However, all our research led us to the conclusion that we would find ourselves in the mountains on smaller roads and that we would have a very difficult time finding places to stay. So it looks like we'll use the tried and true route up I-5.
Today was a lovely warm sunny day, but the wind turbine icons on the weather forecast didn't lie. It was very breezy.
