Way Down Upon the Suwannee River

Happy 28th birthday to Robert and Juli!

We woke up this morning to an even wetter world. It rained a good bit of the night. We decided to postpone our morning walk until we found someplace drier. We pulled out of Southern Trails and headed south on I-75, right through southern Georgia and into Florida. We stopped at the "Florida Welcomes You!" Center and had our Florida orange juice and picked up a Florida map and information about Jacksonville and some other Florida destinations.

Our destination for today was the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, nestled on the banks of the legendary Suwannee River. We're staying in the lovely campground, in site #21, a nice long pull through that actually has a view of the southern sky for our DirecTV satellite dish.

We drove around the neighborhood a bit just to explore. We followed the signs to Big Shoals State Park, way back into the woods, where we found a parking lot and access to whitewater canoeing and kayaking and lots of trails.

When it cooled a bit we walked all around Stephen Foster, checking out the trails and the interesting park features, like the Carillon Tower and the Craft Village. Nothing was open this evening, but we'll go back tomorrow during the day.

I talked to Aunt Iris today and confirmed that we'll be arriving in the Jacksonville area on Saturday. She was at the kingfish tournament with Beth, who is volunteering this year.
