Welcome to Progreso!
Our friend G.W. decided that today was the day for a trip to Mexico, his first this season, so of course a group of us went along to make it a party! We started at Pancho's Bar as usual. Then we moved to El Rancho Grande for lunch. A great time was had by all.
We rode with Steve and Jan, so we got to listen to Steve's tale of woe for the day. It all started with breakfast at the hall, where he goes every Saturday morning and has his usual biscuits and gravy plus two eggs and bacon. But this morning the menu was limited to just quiche and biscuits and gravy. Steve is not a quiche kind of guy--and they were out of biscuits and gravy. This did not make Steve happy, so he went home and collected Jan to go out for breakfast. They had some coupons for Burger King, where they encountered a kitchen staff that was getting orders wrong, including theirs. Then they got in the car to come home and lights all over the dash were lit up, warning about the ABS system no working and problems with the stability tracking system. Jan got out the manual and found the fix for that, so they came and picked us up.
Jan fell a few days ago, and her knees are still puffy, so she didn't want to walk across the international bridge as we usually do, so we planned to drive across. As we approached the bridge, we saw a long line of cars waiting to cross into Mexico. Usually there's little traffic going south and the lines are cars returning to the States. Today we sat in long lines of traffic both ways. Steve got us safely across and dropped us near Pancho's while he went to park the car. Fortunately even with the crowds headed south he was able to find a spot in his usual little parking lot, where a guy watches the car plus washes and waxes it for only $15. What a deal!
It was really good to see G.W. out having a good time. He and David picked up Hugh and Jean. Others in the group included Peter and Pearl, Clint and Helen, Curt and Jean, Ken and Judy, and Hardy and Judy.
