Our morning walk took us past a house whose yard art caught our attention. As we were checking it out we heard a voice saying, "There are more on the side of the house." We walked up and saw that the homeowners were sitting comfortably in their recliners inside a screen room. We started to chat and learned that the husband makes the fanciful birdhouses and the wife paints them. They have quite a collection and have gifted them to their kids and friends and neighbors. Besides adding interest to the yard, the birdhouses have actually attracted bluebirds, which have nested in several of the boxes. The couple said that sparrows sometimes tried to move in, but that they "irritated them" by cleaning out their nests.
We left Rainbow Plantation, the Escapees park in Summerdale, AL, this morning and headed west on I-10 to Mississippi and then on to Louisiana. I always feel like I'm doing something momentous when we cross the Mississippi River. We're staying at Bayou Segnette State Park, just outside of New Orleans. It's a good staging point for seeing the sights in New Orleans.
Our site is #97. Fortunately we were able to overhang in the rear, which gave us enough room to park the truck.
We always enjoy walking around the campground and checking out the other rigs. This one caught our eye from far away. At first we thought the motorcycle was towing the camper. We've seen motorcycles with small camper trailers in the past. Then we saw a rooftop storage pod on the picnic table. Our current hypothesis is that the motorcycle tows the matching small trailer, and the folks were out in a small vehicle they use to tow the teardrop trailer. Still an interesting setup.
We walked around the campground this evening. There are two loops, and one is practically empty. The other has a fair number of sites filled. Apparently many of them belong to a group. When we walked by, there were two large circles of chairs outside one of the rigs, one for men and the other for women. I always like it best when the men and women are mixed together myself.
Tomorrow we're scheduled to take a bicycle tour.
