McKinney Falls State Park

This morning we headed out to McKinney Falls State Park, only a 28 mile trip. On the way we stopped at Walmart for a few things and at a U-Haul for propane. We wanted to time our arrival at the park just before the 2:00 p.m. check-in time. We got there at 1:40 p.m., just right so we had time to look around at the sites to pick out one that would work for us (long enough and view of the southern sky).

It took us longer than usual to back in to our site and get set up, no surprise since we haven't done this for many months now. We're in site 23, a very nice site except that like many of the back-ins here, the picnic table and patio are on the street side of the rig, so our door faces out towards some bushes and the road.

We're looking forward to a few days of exploring the area and taking it easy.

On our walk this evening, we looked at other sites to see which would work for us on a future visit. We decided that site 29 would be our preference, but sites 4 and 36 would also work. Site 5 would work but is pretty open, and we prefer a bit of separation from nearby campsites. That's often one of the best parts of public campgrounds as opposed to private ones: the sites are usually larger and more spread apart. Of course, many public campgrounds were built before big rigs, so lots of sites are too small for Venture.
